(minus Jack and Family Jules… lo siento parents)
Other than spending my time taking llama selfies, I’ve had an amazing time in Cusco, starting the month off with Brian and Peanut in South America! After my weekend at the Salt Flats, I left Bolivia and headed back to Lima to meet the fam and to eat more ceviche. We stayed in Miraflores for a few days with a some friends who were there as well. Lima is beautiful and made me realize how much I missed the ocean and fresh air.
After a few days in Lima, we flew to Cusco. I LOVE Cusco, I think it might be my favorite city so far. It’s like a Disney movie fairytale town and I’m so happy to be here. We spent the weekend exploring the town, taking as many animal pictures as possible, photo collage to follow in my next blog post (get excited).
I put my Spanish skills to good use when attempting to book our Machu Picchu tour… Most people plan ahead and book a few months in advance, but not us. Left that to do the day before and booked at a place in the Plaza de Armas. We weren’t sure if the company was legit, but our car arrived at 3:45am Monday morning and took us to the Ollantaytambo train station for our cheater’s version of Machu Picchu. We adopted another brother for the day, mi amigo Kevin, and the four of us had ourselves a day with the Incas. Despite all of the Tinder pictures I’ve seen of guys at Machu Picchu, the pictures don’t even remotely do it any justice. It’s pretty incredible to think about this whole city that was built on the top of the mountain hundreds of years ago. We had a tour guide for 2 hours but I spent most of the time taking pictures, so now I’m reading Lost City of the Incas by Hiran Bingham to catch up on my facts.
I loved having B and A in Peru, they got to get a taste of Remote Year and saw just how incredible (and unreal) this all is. Can’t wait to have the full RY Family trip in Thailand!
